Tampa Bay game Sunday much more than a game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played a home football game against the San Diego Chargers Sunday at 1 p.m. While this was in fact a normal day for professional football, it was an extraordinary day for service in the Tampa community.

Fans attending the Bucs home football game will have a chance to donate supplies to the Bucs military supply drive. According to the team, fans will be able to give items such as coffee, non-perishable foods and DVDs.

With the Veterans Day weekend hosting a Bucs home football game, it makes sense that the team would participate in an act of service to the men and women serving our country.

According to the team, the supply drive is part of the the team’s “Salute to Service” week by directly helping the troops overseas. More specifically, the drive calls for coffee, hygiene items, tube socks, non-perishable food, and new or slightly used CDs and DVDs.

As an added incentive to donate, the team will enter participating fans into a drawing to win official team merchandise.

The Bucs are leading the community in service for the week and it certainly has an impact on the overall community. It reflects positively on the team for their commitment to service and it provides an easy way for the greater community to become involved in a meaningful act of service.
